Asteria to Open New Head Office Based on the Concept of
“a Place Where People Come Together Whenever Necessary”

Press Release

Tokyo – August 12, 2021 – Asteria Corporation (Japan listed, Security Code: 3853) announced today that it will launch its head office on Oct. 1, 2021 within Ebisu Prime Square Tower in Tokyo’s Hiroo district under the new concept of “a place where people come together whenever necessary”. The aim is to promote new workstyle befitting the post-pandemic “new normal” era.

Asteria has embraced corporate-wide teleworking since last year. Our internal survey conducted on July, 2021 found a significant improvement in employee productivity so we intend to continue working from home even after the pandemic subsides. Reflecting this workstyle, our new office space will shrink to a quarter of the previous office pre-pandemic. The new office, designed to evoke images of a lakeside villa, places an emphasis on lumber and green to make for a comfortable and functional interior.

As corporate-wide teleworking takes root, the central office could be left empty even on weekdays. Asteria will constantly monitor people who enter or exit, and check indoor carbon dioxide levels using AI-equipped IoT integrated edgeware Gravio. The interiors and furniture will feature about 100 pieces of Oguni cedar lumber from thinning. Asteria will also draw on carbon offsets for electricity consumed in the office to advance our decarbonization initiatives.

The reasons behind head office relocation

Asteria has introduced teleworking for all our employees since the end of January 2020 amid the coronavirus outbreak. The implementation rate between April 2020, when the state of emergency was issued for Tokyo and its neighboring prefectures, and March 2021 was over 90%. As telework becomes the norm, Asteria has decided to move our new head office and establish a central office where people can get together safely and comfortably whenever they want as part of our push to promote new ways of working that match the “new normal” era.

The “green & digital” central office will showcase our commitment to Social Development Goals (SDGs) that we stress in our Mid-Term Management Plan “STAR”. It will have an open studio from which our online content will be streamed.

The redefinition of the office

To adapt to the changing work environment during the pandemic, Asteria is working to redefine office spaces. Specifically, we have classified workplaces into five dimensions — center office, virtual office, satellite office (coworking space), remote office (home-based telework) and resort office (“workation”) — and let employees decide on their own a workstyle where they can maximize their productivity. At the same time, we will reconsider our work environments to meet the needs of the times, including moving to rural areas and splitting time between two places of residence.
